Fun, Fabulous Fringe

I love fringe. Its pretty much an obsession of mine. I have always gravitated toward it. In the mall, I see it and I must touch. I must let it run over the side on my hand cascading down, each little twisted string elegant and fun.

I have made it my recent mission to find a way to use fringe in my everyday life. And this morning I finally finished the design for a new clutch “The Remy”. This simple design, paired with the edgy fabric and the fun-ness of fringe has me completely giddy!

All of my bags are designed around “Simplicity & Function”. The key to a great bag, to me, is that you can use it to go to work, the store, and  than straight out that evening. But I don’t want a boring bag, I want a statement piece. A bag that shows my fun side, without over doing it. We are all, after all, each unique. And why should our bag be any different.

The approx. size of “The Remy” is about 10 inches, by about 6 inches (give or take a tad). Fairly standard for a clutch. But what isn’t standard are the prints, the wrist strap that attaches right to the zipper pull, and of course the fringe itself. My only challenge here was deciding if I wanted the fringe to trim the sides of the bag or the bottom. I love both looks. I also found myself stuck between a rock and a hard place on what type of fringe to use, as well  as the length. I love the delicate little nylon twists on things such as flapper dressers, But in all practicality those little twists tend to pull out, and this does not do well for the life of a bag after all, who wants a raggedy looking bag?! Not me that’s for sure. So I bought a 6 inch faux suede fringe I think it has the best look with the boldness of the fabric prints. At 6 inch’s you get go flow and movement without getting into everything and knotting up. And,  I am going to go with bottom trimming on these (but will offer side trim on request). I just like the look of the fringe hanging and moving on the bottom of the bag as it hangs from the wrist. Its a bold yet simple touch, and as I said earlier I like simple.

The customizations for this bag are stacking up as the day has gone on, I’ve written down dozens of ideas. For Example: Not everyone wants a bold edgy print. The best part of my job and having my own hand made boutique is being able to make a one of a kind piece for someone. I get requests for them all the time. Whether you’re a My Little Pony kinda girl and want that print with purple fringe or you want pink floral and a matching fringe, or maybe you want a lace covered beauty for your wedding day. I can so do that.

This bag is a must have.

Call it what you will, Hippie, Gypsy, Bohemian, even Trendy,  but the simplicity of stacking charm bangles fully embraces a timeless fashion style. One I absolutely love. What I don’t love is wearing the same thing everyone else has. The generic sayings charms that everyone can find at the mall. And the new charms we just got in, freshly laser etched and added to our Stainless Steel adjustable bangles, paired with complementing accent charms are not going to be found in any mall, anywhere.

Its Not Just A Box

Packaging has always been very important to me.

It is an extension of me, what I made, and what you’re buying.

I wanted the boxes for my bangles to be simple, yet reflect the “look” I want for JerseyGypsy

(I find I am Burlap, Lace, and Kraft Paper)

But I also believe the box wants to be more. That it can speak volumes even before its opens.

And this is why I create custom labels.

Like this “Gypsy Soul” quote the label came even before the finished bracelet.

Even our wedding party gifting has a simple, yet elegant label to reflect the what and why.

Everyday Inspriation

I take ideas and inspiration from the everyday. From the people and places and things in my life.

These things vary all around (as you can see from this blog).

Todays inspiration came in the form of an invite I got just over a week ago.

A Psychic Party

Hosted by my good friend Missy. I’m over-joyed at this invite!

I have always wanted to go to one of these. Now I don’t have anything to ask. But my beliefs are very open minded.

And I am intrigued to say the least.

What will these cards tell me?

I saw a palm reader one time 3 summers ago. While out bar hoping in Seaside Heights with my friend Jessica who had come up from North Carolina. I hadn’t seen her in a year, and a day (and night) on the boards is just what she wanted.

I’m not sure how it came about with this lil group of beer filled women to stop at the Palm Reader Booth

but hey it was only $5.00 and all in good fun.

Step right up folks, step right up, and Ill  tell you what she told me…

Right off the bat you pay, putting your money in the offering cup

(this my good people is merely how she can tell which hand you use, to read your dominant hand without asking)

“You will live a long and happy life. Men want you and you enjoy the attention but you are not at all interested, you have married the man of your dreams, the love of your life. And you will have 14 grandchildren.”

and there you have it. Word for word, what I was told my palm said.

Is any of this true? Well on the grandkids and long happy life only time will tell. On the rest?

Honestly? Yes, I suppose it is. I am happily married and I am uninterested in other men,

but ahhh it does feel good to be hit on.

So I look forward to my cards being read. And I will search for just the right thing to ask.

I’m leaning toward asking about my business and its future.

I was inspired to create Charm Bracelets as I often am, here are the story boards I came up with…

11328834_10207196818502568_862701456_n11637844_10207186820692629_658045712_n

I’m thinking this would be a great set, to be sold together. $25.00 for the set of two.

I’m also doing Zodiac Sign bangles as well but I don’t have pictures of those just yet…

I found a fabric I also love on my journey to purchase charms for these Bracelets.

11418650_10207186820532625_1907226685_n

I can just see it all together! Can you???

The bracelets shiny and chiming as Charms do on the wrist.

And a tote, or wristlet, or headband, maybe a shirt or shirt in this print.

Oh how fun, even if your do not put your beliefs into such things, there’s a style there, a uniqueness.

“Its about style, not brand.”

And shall I return? To tell you all what the cards told me? To bring you pictures of my finished work?

I shall….

Having A Dream…

I have never known who or what I wanted to be or to do with my life.

I pretty much let life rule over me, take me down whatever path she saw fit.

Well…That no longer works for me.

And I now have a dream. Ultimately to own my own store,  but currently to create a mobile store.

11277941_10207194946775776_1418496349_n

These large step vans converted into rolling boutiques are amazing.

Well..at least I think so.

The idea that you can bring a real store to your customers, to have a dry, clean, even heated and/or cooled shop

standing out among the pop-up tents and tables at any festival, fair, or show makes me giddy!

Weather damage to my products a thing of the past, theft cut down, and set up and break down time nearly gone.

The Gypsy Wanderer in me see’s this as her future, her legacy, something to have and hold with my children, to have continued after Im gone. To one day look back and see. You did that. You made and had that.

Now the banks don’t see it this way. They of course see me as a high risk loan, a crafter with a dream, and nothing more.

I see myself as Owner/Operator/Designer. A Hand Crafted Artist. Creator of unique and one of a kind things.

This led me to a GoFundMe campaign.

And Ill admit, this process is online panhandling and very little more. Ive had it set up for about 3 months and raised nothing, but than again Ive put about that into it as it makes me uncomfortable. But I still check in with it “dreaming”. Even today I will update it and share it with fingers crossed.

gofund.me/khge44

For now I remain contently not content with my etsy shop and rental space in a small shop.

Don’t get me wrong these are great but I still make next to nothing Ive lost more money in the last 2 months than I could ever explain yet I still must pay my rent and fees, and it seems every one is making money off me but me.

And so here’s to the “Dream”.

I am becoming a “Hat Person”

Okay, so owning one hat, I’ve worn twice doesn’t technically make me a hat person.

But its a start! And I’ve always secretly envied anyone that could rock a hat. I never thought hats were “me”.

Turns out I had to just find a hat I was completely in-love with. For me, I created that hat.

A distressed denim, faded khaki colored, 100% cotton Military Style cap. I had embroidered with my company name.

And it is all I hoped it would be.

From being a life saver on these very windy spring days we’ve had (nearly everyday for months now) here in Jersey, to combating the fizz and fly-a-ways from Jerseys infamous humidity. And it is key to driving with the windows open!

The very best part about this hat is the fit, and I think we can all agree nothings better than a good fit. That and after a day of wearing this hat, my hair didn’t look like I just had a hat on all day!
